Visit Lancaster City Dines Around: Shot and Bottle

Lancaster City Restaurant Week is a bi-annual celebration of the rich culinary diversity available in the City of Lancaster. This season Visit Lancaster City’s Marketing & Communications Manager, Wyatt Behringer, decided to take advantage of the special values offered during the week to dine around the City, visit some favorite spots and discover some new ones too!

First Stop: Shot and Bottle! An appropriate choice to launch our Visit Lancaster City blogfest for Lancaster City Restaurant Week with our neighbor across the Square, and one of the hottest culinary destinations in the City. This is Shot and Bottle’s first venture into Restaurant Week and the scene on opening night was nicely crowded for a Monday evening. My dinner guest and I arrived eager to sample the #LCRW Special Menu of a “Brinner” Prix Fixe – three courses of breakfast for dinner, with a gourmet twist, for $30!

Naturally we could not resist a selection from the evening’s specials on the Cocktail Menu. Each of these libations feature products from small distilleries around Pennsylvania, including Lancaster’s Thistle Finch Distillery whose owners, Andrew and Kate Martin, opened Shot & Bottle. We decided that the Grapefruit Crushes (vodka, grapefruit juice, sprite)  would pair well with our menu choices and were off to an excellent citrusy start!

Eager to dig into this intriguing Brinner menu we quickly selected starters. My guest for dinner, a dear friend and adventurer in dining, Anja Najera, choose the Fraiser – Tossed Salad with Scrambled Eggs and Hollandaise Dressing and found it delightful.

I simply could not resist the BLT Salad – Arugula, Bacon, Tomato, Avocado, Hard Boiled Egg, and Balsamic Drizzle and was so glad that I didn’t! The bacon was a perfect crispy companion to the smooth avocado and the balsamic a piquant finish.

Moving on to our second course my guest decided on a very special indulgence. She choose Carrot Pancakes – Carrot Cake Pancakes Served with Maple Syrup and Mascarpone Whipped Cream. The pancakes were light and full of carrot cake goodness with the topping adding a lovely sweet finish. I went the more traditional route with a twist in ordering Chicken & WafflesBaked Mac & Cheese Waffle with House Fried Chicken, Served with Sweet and Spicy Sauce. This was a hearty stack of a dish with fluffy waffles & tender chicken and an added bonus of a zing in the sweet & spicy sauce.

Both of our courses could have satisfied but who can resist a sweet ending? Luckily the restaurant anticipated this and the dessert portions were exactly the right size to end this “Brinner.” We both shared the Coffee & DonutsMean Cup Coffee Served with House Fried Citrus Doughnuts and added a Fruit Parfait – with Strawberry, Blueberry, Spongecake, & Mascarpone Whipped Cream because after all…it’s Lancaster City Restaurant Week only twice each year!
