Prince Street Cafe: A Love Story

Story by guest writer Alex Otthofer, Community Engagement Manager at Lancaster City Alliance

Since opening in 2006, Prince Street Café has undoubtedly established itself as a destination in downtown Lancaster. In recent years, coffee lovers and café goers alike can now enjoy their fresh dishes and easy-going atmosphere at two nearby locations in downtown York and Columbia. Today, the flagship Café in Lancaster is still the “go-to” spot for a coffee date, quick lunch break, or an evening meet-up.

For me, Prince Street Café has always been a special place. In fact, it was my first foray into café culture and the location of my first date with my partner. Throughout the years, it has been the host of many warm friend gatherings, work meetings, and lengthy coffee conversations. Since this establishment has been near and dear to my partner and I, we were both excited to taste some of the new menu items.

Our barista, Christina was very helpful and knowledgeable while explaining the new items. Within the new menu are several Vegan options, including a Vegan Breakfast Sandwich and a Potato Burrito with a black bean spread, veggie mix and vegan cheddar, served with home fries. In addition, several entrée salads have been added, such as Tropical Strawberry Salad and a Cashew Crunch Salad.

What caught my attention was the Tropical Strawberry Salad, prepared with mixed greens, mango, strawberries, toasted coconut, and served with a mango vinaigrette. I quickly decided to order this – I guess I had a bit of spring fever! It did not disappoint. The tangy mango vinaigrette really complemented the sweetness the strawberries. Pro tip – add the bacon bits for a bonus layer of savory flavor!

Chris ordered the Breakfast burrito. Still a classic. Breakfast is served all day, which is always a plus! And what café visit would be complete without a coffee beverage? I always order a 12 oz. hot latte with whole milk.

As always, we had a great lunch date! Prince Street Café’s new menu adds several delicious options for diners who are looking for vegan and vegetarian options, while still offering its classic dishes. I’d recommend trying one of the fresh new salad entrees. As Spring and summer and quickly approaching, I think these items will be a hit!
